DLNA for various devices primarily for media sharing

Post by armdrejoan »

Chromecast (for Android and iPhone):

"Lead" (Device): A Google Chromecast dongle australia phone number list (plugs into your TV's HDMI port) or a Smart TV with Chromecast built-in.
How it works: You "cast" content from compatible apps on your phone (like YouTube, Netflix, Google Photos) to the Chromecast device on your TV. Both your phone and the Chromecast need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Apple AirPlay (for iPhone):

"Lead" (Device): An Apple TV streaming box (connects to your TV via HDMI) or an AirPlay-compatible Smart TV.
How it works: iPhones have a built-in "Screen Mirroring" feature (AirPlay) that lets you wirelessly mirror your entire screen or stream content from apps to an Apple TV or compatible Smart TV. Both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Miracast (mainly for Android and Windows):

"Lead" (Device): A Miracast-compatible Smart TV or a Miracast dongle/receiver (plugs into your TV's HDMI port).
How it works: Miracast allows for direct screen mirroring between a compatible Android phone and a Miracast-enabled TV or receiver, often without needing a Wi-Fi router (it uses Wi-Fi Direct). Many Android phones and smart TVs support Miracast, though it might go by different names like "Smart View" (Samsung) or "Screen Mirroring" (LG, Sony).

No specific "lead," it's a protocol.
How it works: Many phones and Smart TVs support DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance). This allows you to share media files (photos, videos, music) from your phone to your TV via your Wi-Fi network. It's not usually for full screen mirroring, but for streaming specific media. You'll often use a dedicated app on your phone.
To choose the right "lead" (cable/adapter) or method, first identify:

What phone model do you have?
What ports are on your TV? (Most common is HDMI).
Do you prefer a wired or wireless connection?
